Exactly What Happens to Your Breastmilk at LyoBB — Step by Step

We know handing over months of pumped breastmilk to anyone requires a level of trust. So we want to be completely transparent about what happens at every step of our process — from your doorstep to your drawer.

Step 1: Getting started

WhatsApp us at +65 8802 1996 or reach us through our website. Once your order is confirmed, we'll send you a short submission form — it takes about two minutes. Then we work out a collection date that suits your schedule.

Step 2: Preparing your milk

Pack your frozen bags into a ziplock bag. We provide the cooler bag and ice packs — you don't need to source anything. Your milk needs to meet a few requirements:

  • Stored frozen flat in proper lactation bags (we cannot accept glass containers, general ziplock bags, or non-sterilised pouches)

  • Previously unfrozen — once-thawed milk cannot be reprocessed

  • Expressed and stored according to HPB guidelines

  • Bags undamaged and clean on the surface

  • Maximum 180–200ml per bag; no minimum volume per order

Step 3: Doorstep collection

We come to you. Your milk stays frozen throughout transport — cold-chain management from your door to our lab is part of our process, not an afterthought.

Step 4: Processing in our certified lab

Your milk enters our facility in Kallang — ISO 13485-certified, with an ISO Class 6 humidity-controlled clean booth and 15 HEPA filters. Every surface that contacts your milk is either a single-use disposable or autoclaved/UV-sanitised before use.

Your milk goes onto trays — never shared with another mummy's batch.

The freeze-drying process:

  1. Your milk is frozen solid at very low temperature

  2. It enters our vacuum chamber where pressure is reduced

  3. The frozen water sublimates — converting directly from ice to vapour without passing through liquid, which is what preserves the milk's structure and nutritional integrity

  4. Approximately 90% of the water is removed

  5. What remains is a concentrated, shelf-stable powder

Step 5: Packaging

Your freeze-dried powder is sealed into airtight mylar pouches. Each pouch is labelled with your name, batch details, and the exact reconstitution ratio — the specific amount of water to add to restore your milk to its original consistency.

Step 6: Packaging options

You can choose 1-to-1 packaging (one original bag = one LyoBB pouch) or standardised packaging. If any of your original bags were under 100ml, we combine two into one pouch. We'll explain the options clearly when you confirm your order.

Step 7: Turnaround time

Processing typically takes five working days to two weeks after we receive your milk, depending on volume and current order queue. Large orders take longer — let us know if you're sending a big batch so we can give you a realistic timeline.

Using your freeze-dried breastmilk

When you're ready to feed:

  • Add approximately 40°C warm water in the amount specified on your pouch label

  • Swirl gently — don't shake

  • If clumps remain, run the bottle under warm water and swirl again

  • High-fat milk may take a little longer to fully dissolve

You can also add freeze-dried powder directly to your baby's solid foods — purees, porridge, soft foods — once they've started weaning. Skip this step for very hot food; let it cool to warm before mixing in the powder.
